Discuss Old Business:   Motion made by Master Shaw and Seconded by Master Shaw Ferriby

A.  Discussed MI. State Tournament held May 10, 2008.  We had approximately 261 competitors up for the third year in a row.  Even though times were hard in Michigan we felt the support from our clubs was substantial and club registration also up to 15.  The event ran very smoothly, held to its time frame and the location was very accessible to all clubs statewide. Feedback was very good!

CHANGES MADE AT STATES THIS YEAR:

1.  We were able to rent computers for 6 rings from our member club (AWMA) and this enhanced our efficiency ringside..Truly this gave Michigan AAU a giant leap forward into the tech world and verbally amongst other AAU Districts.  It proves Michigan is serious about growing and expanding!!!

2. It was recommended that Black Belts help out as officials (this took precedence over Black Belts having the choice of coaching or officiating!)  This is a joint responsibility of all Black Belts to first ‘step up’ to be certified officials and let qualified others due the coaching.

3.  In our Officials pre-tournament meeting explained the AAU Rules to be followed in all the rings.  This was to prevent Centers from interpreting the rules as they choose inside the rings during the matches.

4.  It was also suggested and implemented that three tables be set up and open at registration:

A.  One for sign in for those competitors pre-registered already.

B.     Another for those new registrations taken on Friday night only.

C.     A special table for competitors and coaches to pick up pre-purchased T-shirts,

sweatshirts or any other official shirts, ties or rule books.

B.  Scholarship of $500 each awarded to Daniel Jones and Lindsey Smith.

Motion by Master Shaw to close Old Business…supported by Master Shaw-Ferriby.

Motion to Open New Business by Master Shaw-Ferriby seconded by Master Shaw.

NEW BUSINESS:

1. Date for MI. State AAU Tae Kwon Do Championship Tournament set for May 9, 2009 at Mt. Pleasant High School .  Grand Master Eisen has confirmed.

2.  Discussed having the tournament last for two days instead of one…it was decided that it is not feasible at this time because of additional lodging cost to competitors, additional time lost from work, extra rental cost for two days for gym,  getting enough volunteers to setup,   conflict with the Coaches clinic held the night before the tournament, etc.

3.  Proposed that three Officials’ clinics be held ASAP in Northern MI. Western MI. and Central MI ( Maryville ) due to the large attendance last year.. This will guarantee all officials and coaches have the opportunity to get certified. Grand Master Eisen will make the necessary phone calls to start this in motion.

4.  Coaches MUST have PICTURE credentials to be on the floor.

5.  All Athletes and Coaches must turn in name tags to Head Table upon entering the rings for competition.  It is up to the Center’s discretion to return credentials to them upon completion of competition.

6.  Chairs for coaches will be placed ringside to curtail coaches from wondering freely in the ring structure and adding to congestion.

7.  A small postcard verifying the top 8 competitor’s qualification for JO’s and Nationals will be given out personally to the competitors at the end of their competition by the center judge.

8.  NO EARLY ADMISSION WILL BE GIVEN TO ANYONE TOURNAMENT DAY –DOORS WILL NOT BE OPEN TIL STATED TIME ON REGISTRATION FORM!

9.  Due to excessive cost of trophies downsizing will be done for 2009.

Motion to Close New Business by Master Shaw seconded by Grand Master Eisen.

Motion to Open Floor to Discussion by Master Shaw Ferriby seconded by Master Shaw.

Open Agenda:

  1. Master Shaw requested permission to purchase 50 more mats to allow for set up of all 6 rings to be official 20 X 20 Ft. size. Approved!

  2. Check into the cost of picture ID’s for Coaches and Officials.  Possibly have passport size picture submitted with coach’s application found in State Packet.

  3. Suggested that we have an additional color added to the medals to set them apart for 2009…this will be further checked into…

  4. Check into the fee Coaches are charged to coach in other State Tournaments..are we comparable?

  5. Grand Master Eisen reported he is currently receiving numerous new calls requesting information from new clubs about joining our AAU TKD Organization.

6.  New Registration has already begun for 2009 with 46 athletes and 3 clubs

     currently registered!!!
